Spiritual care is an important part of healthcare.
The spiritual health of a person is a key underlying component to someone’s healing process.
As a health professional I am honoured to be part of that healing process for many, which is why I take the time to connect with my health partners beliefs.
By doing that we can learn to identify if someone is in spiritual distress and refer to the specialist in spiritual health, chaplains or spiritual care professionals.
Here are 3 questions to ask your health partner (patients) on their spiritual health:
Do you have any deeply held values or beliefs?
What do I need to know about you to take care of you better?
Do you have any philosophy of life , spiritual practice or religion you follow?
These are the 3 I like to use.
